RUSSIAS REQUISITION OF CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL VALUES OF THE COSSACK ERA
The purpose of the publication is to study the modern locations of some of Ukraine's cultural and historical values from the Cossack era that are still in Russia. It aims to discover their conditions and how these items ended up in certain archival and museum institutions of the aggressor state. The methodology is based on exploratory search, a historical and chronological approach to collecting and systematizing the received information. The principles of historicism and objectivity are applied for coverage of the topic under consideration. Critical approaches and comparative studies were widely used in processing the information obtained from available sources. The scientific novelty lies in the more current subjects of returning cultural heritage objects of Ukraine from the Russian Federation. These topics are especially sensitive in the context of the modern Russian-Ukrainian war. The study prepares the basis for stimulating the development process and methods of restitution of our cultural and historical values from the Cossack era, along with mechanisms for reparation. It focuses on creating effective methods for protecting existing exhibits in Ukrainian collections in case of possible repeated enemy intervention. Conclusions. After analyzing the available material, we can conclude that dialogue with Muscovy has never yielded the desired (positive) results, especially in the field of our history and cultural objects. Today, Ukraine has a unique opportunity to use reparation mechanisms as a lever of influence on the process of returning our Cossack treasures and more.
Key words: cultural values, historical values, Cossack insignia, regalia, museum exhibits, treasures, Ukraine, Russia, war, return, restitution, reparation.
