ETHNIC CONSCIOUSNESS AS A FACTOR OF PRESERVATION

AND DEVELOPMENT OF UKRAINIAN ETHNOCULTURAL IDENTITY

Abstract. The article analyzes the influence of ethnic consciousness on the preservation and development of ethnic identity. It is determined that one of the main factors in preserving the Ukrainian ethnic identity in the context of globalization is ethnic identity. It is shown that ethnic consciousness is the object of research in many scientific fields, namely ethnology, ethnic psychology, ethnocultural studies, ethnolinguistics, cognitivism and other sciences. It was found that ethnic identity is the most important structural element of ethnic culture and a decisive criterion for the existence of the ethnos, it has a leading role in the formation and functioning of society as a whole system. It was found that the functions of ethnic consciousness are directly related to the practical activities of ethnic groups, and their implementation outlines the ways of ethnic progress and goals of the ethnic group. It is outlined that due to the formation and assimilation of ethnic group ethnocultural competence, which self-organizes the life of the ethnos and determines the preservation and transmission from generation to generation of ethnic cultural tradition, is the preservation and development of ethnocultural identity. It is revealed that the formation of ethnic identity is facilitated by ethnicization, which occurs through in-depth study of language, family traditions and customs, and ethnocultural information is a system-forming factor that makes an individual feel an integral part of their ethnicity. It is highlighted that language is an important feature of ethnic consciousness and contributes to its development, it is an important source of self-determination, preservation and transmission of social experience and the basis of self-preservation and self-organization of the ethnos. It is characterized that the development, transformation and preservation of ethnic consciousness and ethnocultural identity are influenced by political, economic, ideological and other socio-historical conditions. The role of the state in the harmonization and development of ethnic consciousness and ethnocultural identity is emphasized. It is determined that purposeful and well-thought-out policy on the part of the state, promotion of ethnoculture and language of the titular ethnos will contribute to the preservation, reproduction and creation of ethnocultural identity of the Ukrainian people.
