UKRAINIAN SONG FOLKLORE: CONTINUITY OF TRADITIONS IN THE INTERIM
Relevance of the topic. In contemporary historical science, the study of culture, particularly national musical and song folklore, holds a significant place in the exploration of the history of Ukrainian art. With Ukraine gaining independence, it’s ties with European countries intensified, raising the issue of introducing the world to works oвf both classical and modern Ukrainian folklore. There emerged an interest in national culture, its traditions, and history, impacting global cultural trends. The relevance of the topic has significantly increased due to the aggression of the Russian Federation against independent sovereign Ukraine, the enemy's desire to destroy our state, nation, subjugate our people, and oppress the country, as has occurred multiple times in history. One of the instruments in the fight for freedom becomes the millennia-old poetic and musical culture of Ukrainians, which has undergone a long development and has not been lost over time. The methodology is based on general scientific principles of historicism, objectivity, chronological sequence, systematicity, and complexity, allowing the tracking of trends in the development and functions of Ukrainian folklore in historical space. Specialized scientific methods are also applied: the comparative-historical method is used to trace the dynamics of Ukrainian folklore functioning in different historical periods, elucidate the features and level of popularization of Ukrainian folk songs in Ukraine and beyond. Ethnographic methods of comparative linguistics are also employed, along with a differential analysis of the means of musical expression in folk and author's music of different times. The scientific novelty lies in examining the issue of the influence of national folklore on Ukrainian society up to the present, including during the times of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Based on comparative analysis, the peculiarities of the existence of folk song creativity at various stages of Ukrainian state development and the formation of the national self-identification of the Ukrainian people are clarified. Conclusions. It is established that despite the long historical path, with processes of transformation, periods of decline and revival, oppression and liberation, Ukrainian folk creativity has been and remains an integral part of Ukrainian national culture. It is proven that, for the Ukrainian community, turning to the traditional culture, including folkloric song heritage, is typical during periods of suppression of national consciousness and vulnerability of Ukrainian statehood.
Key words: Ukraine, Ukrainian traditions, Ukrainian folklore, ethnography, song creativity, folk song, national self-identification, musical style.
