THE POPULATION OF UKRAINIAN DONBAS IN THE RESCUE OF JEWS
DURING THE HOLOCAUST: BASED ON THE ARCHIVES OF HUMAN MEMORY
The events of World War II left a painful mark on world history, in particular the tragic consequences of the Holocaust, which also took place on Ukrainian lands. This work explores the activities of Ukrainians who, risking their own lives, saved Jews within the modern Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The article examines various forms of assistance to Jews by the local population, including participation in the rescue of children, the falsification of documents. and even the intervention of representatives of the auxiliary police, as well as the motives of their actions and the challenges they faced.
The research is based on the analysis of archival sources, oral testimonies of eyewitnesses, interviewed respondents and historiographical works. The results obtained contribute to the preservation of historical memory of the tragedy of the Holocaust, help to debunk stereotypes about Ukrainians as alleged executors of Nazi policies. and highlight the contribution of Ukrainians in the struggle to save human lives.
Key words: Holocaust, rescue of Jews, Ukrainians, Stalin region, Voroshilovgrad region.
