SOCIO-CULTURAL SPACE OF EVERYDAY LIFE OF THE RURAL POPULATION OF THE UKRAINIAN SSR DURING THE PERIOD OF «PERESTROIKA» 1985 – 1991
The article describes the socio-cultural space of everyday life of the rural population of the Ukrainian SSR in the conditions of "perestroika" of 1985-1991. It is shown that the work of cultural institutions in the Ukrainian village was aimed at organizing cultural recreation for the population and was considered an important tool for its ideological education. The cultural space of rural leisure was created mainly by clubs, culture houses, libraries, and cultural and sports complexes.
The course towards centralization of the sphere of cultural services for the population led to the creation of a centralized library system and cultural and sports complexes, within the structure of which several entities or structural divisions could operate. The policy of centralization did not produce the desired results in solving the growing problems of the functioning of cultural institutions. Despite the rhetoric of "perestroika" about renewing work, cultural workers mostly continued to use old methods and forms of work, which were dominated by lectures, amateur performances, board games, mass holidays, and films. Often, the work was focused on reporting and inspections, rather than consumer requests, which made leisure activities monotonous and uninteresting, leading to a decrease in visitors. The implementation of paid services in the cultural sphere was hampered by a weak material and technical base, low professional level of personnel, their inertia, imperfection of the regulatory framework and its lack of understanding on the ground. The old psychology dominated in the attitude towards culture and its figures, who continued to be financed on a residual basis and often did not receive support from local authorities.
Key words: Ukrainian SSR, rural population, everyday life, socio-cultural space, «perestroika», liberalization, cultural institutions, leisure, cultural development.
